It’s Hockey Night Tonight!
Let me take a moment to set the scene here: its Monday AM. Ahead of me is a full day of Capital Markets, Accounting, Decision Science and recruiting. I leave myself no free time between lunch, recruiting and homework in my schedule. Why do I do this? To make room for my favorite event of the week: TRIPOD. HOCKEY.
No matter where you’re from. No matter how much skating you have done. No matter your gender, height or knowledge of the rules of hockey. Don’t know what a power play is? We’ll teach you. A wrist shot? Get ready to learn. You will have a tough time escaping the far-reaching influence that is Tuck Tripod Hockey. And let me tell you, you will love every second of it. The relationships you will build with your teammates are priceless. Sharing a locker room, bench and a learning experience with both first and second years will be worth the growing pains associated with learning a new sport.
The highlight of my season thus far has been the transition from a forward to a goalie. In the first 4 games of the season, I enjoyed moderate respect for my ability to skate ridiculously hard and fast without any idea as to how I’m going to come to a stop. After my first game in goal, my teammates were amazed that a goalie wearing children’s XL padding (I weigh in at an intimidating 5′5″, 135 lbs) could block so many shots. These moments of sporting glory are common at Tuck, and are a great part of the Tuck experience.
Stay out of my crease!
So get excited. Get pumped. The Women’s and Men’s Tripod draft is just 11 short months away. Think about how awesome it would be to play a tournament in front of your classmates in a Division 1 hockey rink. Get ready to get out there and skate your heart out.
