Please read Part I below before reading this post.
3) First Year Project (FYP): This is the capstone project that all students are required to do during the spring term in the first year (I have written about the FYP in one of my earlier blog entries). Students regularly bring in projects that they want to work on by leveraging their network within the industry / country of interest and make the project happen.
4) Learning expeditions / treks: Students typically go on self-organized treks during breaks to various countries. The CIB also hosts what is called “learning expeditions” during which interested students visit a country, interact with political and business leaders, and experience firsthand how companies operate in that country.
5) International speakers / conferences: An impressive list of speakers come to Tuck year round and, along with a number of my classmates, I’ve had the privilege to listen to world-renowned business leaders and have had the opportunity to interact with many of them one-on-one during office hours / lunches / dinners. The personal nature of these conversations makes them that much more meaningful, develops your network, and gives you a great perspective of international business. There are also conferences that Tuck hosts (the French MBA conference is coming up next month; we had a China conference earlier this year and an India conference last year) which offer excellent opportunities to meet with panelists and attendees in order to gain a better understanding of how business is done in the highlighted country.
Other avenues for those with further international business interests are the MBA Fellow program at the CIB (I am one of them) and the student host positions that are part of the Visiting Executive program, where student hosts have the opportunity to spend the whole day one-on-one with these high-profile visitors. You can very well imagine the quality of the learning experience through these interactions.
If you put your mind to it, I can assure you, at Tuck, you can literally get what you want in terms of international business exposure!
