Attending medical school is just the first professional step in the process of becoming a physician. You need to act in a professional way from the beginning of the application process. Sites like Facebook, MySpace, or YouTube can be a great way to stay in touch with friends, but as with all things, you never want to put anything on these sites that could reflect a less-than-professional aspect of your personality. It is a very small world. Be mindful of this, and of any images or information that you put out on these social networking sites. Admissions committees may not have time to look at these sites for every applicant, but more and more schools are researching prospective students online to see what other information is available, in addition to whatever you may have submitted to them in your formal application.
E-mail addresses such as <drgoodluv@hotmail.com>, <imastud247@yahoo.com>, or <Qteepie@gmail.com> are inappropriate to use when applying to medical school. Addresses such as these can tell an admissions committee a lot about your character that you may not even realize. Always put forth your most professional side when communicating with an admissions office. You never know what they are looking at and how you are being evaluated.
