High Line Review, NYC BBQ, Future of MBAs, Am I old??

The new High Line park is simply amazing! I couldn’t wait till the weekend, so instead of going swimming, I went for a run last night. Coming back, I went through the High Line. Currently, only a section of it is open. So it opens up at Gansevoort St and ends at 20th St. I think I was like the only person that actually ran through the park…haha. Everyone else was strolling and taking their time, taking in the scenery. As I was whizzing by, I did hear many positive remarks and comments from people. Everyone liked it a lot! They definitely did an excellent job on the landscape and architecture. There wasn’t any over-the-top pieces or displays. It was simplistic yet elegant. Naturalistic would be a good description. And did I detect a hint of Asian aesthetics? There’s even a bar at the entrance end. I can’t wait till they open the rest of the line. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures. The only thing I had was the clothes on my back and my keys (I was jogging after all). I’ll probably come back this weekend to take it all in, slowly this time. I wonder what will the sunset look like from up there. I’ll of course take pictures.

Seventh Annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party. This weekend at Madison Square Park. I am there!

Read another optimistic (being sarcastic) article about MBAs. The Financial Times reported more good news about the future of MBAs…joy (again, being sarcastic). According to the article, the number one reason why people still pursue MBAs is because they want to get a better job. That’s obvious. Although the reputation of MBAs has most certainly been damaged, I believe that higher education will always be in demand for professional growth. Unless civilization as we know it goes down the sh&thole, there always be a demand for higher education and training.

Something my admissions consultant said a while ago has been bugging me recently. He flat out told me that I was “kind of on the old side” for BSchool. Really?? 27 is considered old now?? I thought that’s the average age. But apparently, the new trend now is that BSchools are looking for younger applicants. Hence, 25 is the new 27. But the following statistic does make me feel a little better. According to Columbia’s 2008 student profile, the average age range is 22-41, the middle 80% is 25-31. And NYU’s average age for the admitted class of 2008 is 27. When/If I matriculate, I’ll be 28. That’s not so bad right? I would just hate to be considered the “old man” in the classroom. Luckily, Asians age well. I can still pass for 25 : )
