The China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) has named noted Harvard Business School (HBS) marketing professor and former dean of London Business School (LBS) John Quelch to become its next dean, starting in February 2011, the Financial Times reported yesterday.
British by birth, Quelch holds degrees from Oxford University, the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, the Harvard School of Public Health and Harvard Business School and has written countless books and case studies. Indeed, according to the FT report more than 3.4 million copies of his case studies have been sold, the third highest for a single professor in HBS history.
Quelch, who served as LBS dean in the late 1990s, helped expand that school’s external focus, particularly in relation to alumni and recruiters, according to the FT. He also served as first senior associate dean for international development at HBS from 2001 to 2006. Outside of the academic world, he also serves as non-executive director of London advertising giant WWP.
Quelch will replace Rolf Cremer, who is stepping down after six years in the job. Cremer will continue as emeritus dean and economics professor at CEIBS. During his tenure, the school experienced rapid growth, expanding to three campus in China – Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzen – and launching an executive MBA program in Accra, in Ghana, the FT reports. Cremer also helped establish CEIBS’ own publishing company, the FT added.
