In a post to her Directors Blog yesterday, Harvard Business School (HBS) Admissions Director Dee Leopold informed Round 1 applicants who have yet to receive an invitation to interview that they can expect one of three emails today, November 3rd.
First, HBS will extend a few more invitations to interview, so if you haven’t already received one, today could be the day. Next, HBS will extend roughly 100 offers to join the waitlist, Leopold wrote. Finally, all other Round 1 applicants will be notified today of their release from consideration, which is to say that HBS will communicate that it is unable to offer you a place in the Class of 2013.
In an earlier blog post, Leopold explained that HBS this year will be conducting this new “early release” experiment in the hopes that it will allow Round 1 applicants who are not admitted more time to prepare Round 2 applications to other programs.
“While no one applies hoping for a ‘deny’ decision, we have heard you say that the worst case is the uncertainty which can extend from October through mid-December,” Leopold wrote. “So we’re trying this to see if it helps,” she continued.
Leopold assured applicants that though her team will be making decisions faster under this method than it has in the past, it has the resources it needs to make sure that all written applicants are reviewed thoroughly before any decisions are made. All applications will be reviewed at least twice before a final decision is rendered, she said.
