In a post to her Director’s Blog earlier this month, Harvard Business School Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Dee Leopold reminded prospective applicants to the school’s deferred admissions program for promising college students that the application schedule has changed this year.
“We have changed the 2+2 Program this year to make it possible to apply throughout your senior year of college,” she wrote. Her message followed the 2011 deadline for 2+2 Summer Round applications, which was July 6th. In a change from past years, the summer round is now one of four rounds in which college students may apply.
To apply for the 2+2 Class of 2016 Cohort, college students who will graduate between October 1, 2011, and September 30, 2012, can choose to participate in any of the following rounds:
• Early Round: July 2011 application deadline; September 2011 notification
• Round 1: October 2011 application deadline; December 2011 notification
• Round 2: January 2012 application deadline; March 2012 notification
• Round 3: March 2012 application deadline; May 2012 notification
“Now that there are multiple application rounds for 2+2 candidates, we are no longer going to publish stats of applicants/admits from the summer application period,” Leopold continued. Instead, they will wait until the end of the season to show a complete profile for the 2+2 Class of 2016, in keeping with how they manage stats and profiles for the regular MBA program, she added.
For applicants who submitted 2+2 applications on July 6th, HBS will send out interview invitations on July 22nd. The school also on the same day will release any candidates not being interviewed from consideration. All interviews for the 2+2 Summer Round will take place on campus between August 17th and 23rd.
The changes to the applications schedule for the 2+2 Program were first announced in February 2011, when Leopold also shared that the program will now include ALL college senior applicants to HBS. What that means is that no college seniors without full-time work experience will be admitted to HBS directly. All college applicants will be considered “deferred admission,” that is, a place in the HBS class will be reserved for them to fill after completing two years of work experience.
At the time of the first announcement, Leopold stressed that there are no hidden messages about HBS strategy in this change. “It’s a mechanical change to bring all college seniors under the same 2+2 umbrella which will enable us to have a cleaner outreach message to this group,” she wrote.
