The George Washington School of Business has launched a new certificate to promote corporate responsibility and sustainable social, environmental and economic value, the school announced last week. The certificate is based on fulfilling the United Nations global initiative, Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). GW’s School of Business is a PRME signatory school.
“We tell our business students that they must act responsibly, lead passionately and think globally. The certificate in responsible management is an excellent way to incorporate these values into the students’ business school experience,” said Susan M. Phillips, dean and professor of finance.
MBA students Ari Isaacman and Lisa Manning worked with John Forrer, associate director of the GW Institute for Corporate Responsibility, to develop the certificate requirements.
“Employers are looking for business school students who can think strategically to solve problems. This certificate aims to help form responsible business leaders who are ready to face these challenges confidently,” said Manning.
“Students who wish to differentiate themselves by demonstrating their commitment to ethics and responsibility should find the GW School of Business an excellent place to earn their MBA,” added Issacman.
Eligible students are required to complete six classroom credit hours, contribute 45 hours to University club activities and dedicate 50 hours to community service projects. It takes approximately three semesters to earn the certificate in responsible management.
“The certificate in responsible management is a great way for students to translate the PRME principles into practical learning experiences–building their own bridges between theory and practice,” said Forrer.
