Many companies report plans to hire in every category in 2012 and most plan to increase or maintain the number of new hires, according to a recent survey of corporate employers conducted by the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC).
GMAC released the results of its 2011 Year-End Employers Poll earlier this month, and the findings bode well for current MBA students. Of companies polled, 74 percent plan to hire MBAs next year, compared with just 57 percent in 2011. What’s more, 22 percent of all companies plan to hire more MBAs in 2012 than they did in 2011.
Employers will also hire more specialized business master’s graduates and master in management graduates in the year ahead, according to the poll results. Fifty-nine percent of employers polled plan to hire specialized business master’s graduates in 2012, up from just 38 percent in 2011. And 51 percent plan to hire master in management graduates in 2012, up from 35 percent this year.
The GMAC poll of 229 hiring managers at 216 companies around the globe was conducted in November and includes both actual 2011 hiring and projected 2012 hiring plans. The poll also found that a quarter to a third of companies plan to increase base salaries, 66 percent of companies will offer paid MBA internships in 2012 and 22 percent of companies will increase the number of internships they offer.
