Global Trips 2010

Each spring semester, MBAs at McCombs have the opportunity to go on what we call “global trips.” You enroll in a three credit hour course, which meets once a week leading up to the global trip–a two week study tour over spring break and the following week. The trips are expensive, but it’s a great international study opportunity for those unable to commit to spending an entire semester abroad.

Last year I went on the global trip to China and had a great experience, despite being a bit nervous about the whole thing. (I attribute the nervousness to the fact that I had previously only been out of the US to visit France and Canada–I speak French–and I was terribly worried I would get lost in China and not be able to communicate.) I would love to go on another global trip this year. Destinations available to 2nd year students include:

  • China
  • India
  • Middle East (UAE & Turkey)
  • Russia
  • South Africa
  • Southeast Asia

I’m really hoping to go on the India trip, but because India wasn’t among the offerings last year I’m concerned that there will be extraordinary demand for this course. (I’m just not sure if I’m up for bidding my entire point budget for the spring on a global course.) As a bonus, the trip ends in Bangalore, where one of my sorority sisters has been working for a startup for the last couple of years. It would be wonderful to have the opportunity to visit with her after the trip and before returning to Texas.

After India, it’s a tie between the Middle East and South Africa trips.

Where would you go?
