My firm first made me an offer in the fall of 2007. I took them up on it and spent the summer of 2008 lunching, swimming with dolphins, and doing some “work.”
On the last day of the summer program, they invited me to come back and do it all over again. So I did, although things were much quieter thanks to Bear, Lehman, et al.
On the last day of the summer program, they invited me to return as an associate, but only if I managed to earn a minimum 3.5 gpa during my final year at the law school. I made some sacrifices, earned the grades, passed the bar exam, and made my way back to the firm to start as an associate.
I’m finally here. All in, the process took three years and three months from initial screening interview to first day as an associate. It’s been a long process, y’all.
And I’m damn lucky to have this job. So many things had to go right for me to get here. And they did. For that I am thankful.
