It’s hard to believe that it is already mid-July! While we’re in the midst of winding down the recruiting season for the Class of 2010, we’re also gearing up for the beginning of our recruitment season for the Class of 2011.
So what have we been up to in admissions this summer? Lots, I can assure you. But more specifically, we’ve been focused on putting together a set of new application questions that we feel will help us to get to know you. They require introspection and an awareness of you that goes beyond a pure listing of events or facts. So before you begin writing, first take the time you need to reflect on your life and career to date. Second, determine the set of schools that you feel will provide you with the experiences necessary to reach your goals. (Remember while there is only one MBA degree, each program can be completely different in content and approach from the next – so do your research). Third, plan what messages you wish to convey in your application based on the schools you have selected, and then plot them into the various components of the application. Once you’ve done all that, the fun part begins – writing. I will write more about that topic in future posts.
Over the coming weeks, I plan to use the Rose Report to update you on admissions – from the various application components to relevant news from both Chicago and the road. If you feel a specific topic needs to be covered, please send me an e-mail ( rose.martinelli@chicagobooth.edu).
The admissions team will be heading out across the globe to meet you, in just a few short weeks, and my first trip will literally take me round the world – Tel Aviv, Mumbai, Bangalore, New Delhi, Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo and then back home — all in two weeks. But first, I’m off to Maine for week to get energized for what I expect will be another exciting year at Chicago Booth. Have a great week! Warm regards, Rose
