“We originally thought that reducing our carbon footprint would cost us money; it’s actually saving us money.” - Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of GE, on the ecomagination initiative
Exciting new initiative at GE! Just a day after the announcement of Jeff Immelt as the keynote speaker at the 2009 National Net Impact Conference, GE released its healthymagination initiative – commiting $6B to enable better healthcare by launching 100+ innovations that lower cost, increase access and improve quality by 15%.
GE continues to take bold new steps into the future of healthcare using the ecomagination model to duplicate a whole new model around healthcare. Similar to the eco movement, companies are reluctant to take on the challenge based on the belief that innovations and improvements always involves certain tradeoffs – mainly costs vs returns. By taking a long term perspective, ecomagination has not only increase revenue 4 fold in a little over 4 years, GE reduced its carbon footprint by 8% saving over $100M annually. Looking forward to this summer and learning more about the new healthymagination initiative.
