I recently came across an amazing charity, Child’s Play, which gets video games, toys, and books to children in hospitals, to bring them a little cheer during the holiday season and throughout the year. The children can check out game consoles and games to use in their rooms, and toys are in some cases given to children to keep at Christmas. It is a highly directed, shoestring budget charity, so all but 2-3% of donations, and all the actual toys and video games, go directly to the kids.
If you have some spare cash, I encourage you to donate via PayPal or buy some items from a hospital’s Amazon wish list. You can choose a hospital near you and pick the items you want to send if you wish. We just sent a great Nintendo DS edutainment title and a book to the children’s hospital near us. Help send the message that gamers and others are passionate about helping children be happy and healthy!
