Fridays From The Frontline
Hello, and welcome to a brand new edition of Fridays From the Frontlines, Clear Admit’s latest look-see into the large and delightful MBA applicant, and current student, blogosphere. As more round one notifications were sent out, this week had a lot of b-school hopefuls reporting their good and bad news. Current students, especially first years, were a bit more subdued that normal … perhaps the bloom is off the second semester rose?
Steve looked forward to his Superbowl plans outside of Philly, and expressed his appreciation for the MBA blogging community. Beautiful Mind gave his readers a sense of all the things on his schedule, and wished for 48 hours in a day. XLick celebrated a birthday and thought that all his fellow MBA applicant bloggers could guess what his wish was. HBS Dork gave his ‘two cents’ on the President’s recent State of the Union address. Braveheart reviewed the newest novel by Chetan Bhagat. AJ applied the time management matrix lessons she was currently learning to her MBA applications. Rocky also hoped to bolster his time management skills, not to mention his ability to speak French. Madalogue received a zap from Darden, attended a Tepper event in Bangalore and happily shared her acceptance news from Olin. Hari enjoyed his IESE assessment day and all the people he met. MBA Hopeful also had positive news to share: he was accepted by MIT … now all he had to do was figure out how he was going to finance the degree and when he would depart from his current job. The happy news kept on coming, as Fuqua invited Ardent Meerkat to interview later in the month. LBiggs‘ application hopes were revived when she, too, received an interview invite from Fuqua. Shubha shared his Cornell interview experience, which we hope he shared with the Clear Admit Wiki as well! While Dream Chaser was happy to have his Kellogg admit in hand, he was still disappointed that his Sloan application had been pushed to round two.
First years were a quiet bunch this week. Kellogg ‘11 Orlando reflected on his choice of blog name and clarified that his blog was just one person’s perspective, not the entire class of 2011. Stanford ‘11 Palo Alto For a While faced tough decisions in her summer job hunt.
Darden ‘10 Oren returned from an Israel trek. Fellow classmate Mechanigal shared a video that helped her see how the movie industry and an MBA are mutually exclusive. Harvard ‘10 Gabrielle also had movies on her mind as she recapped her first day of film-watching at Sundance. While she was still enjoying the experience of studying in Sweden, Darden ‘10 July Dream experienced something that resembled homesickness. McCombs ‘10 Metal spent eight hours preparing his case write-up for his Global Finance class.
And that concludes this week’s round up of the always interesting activities and thoughts of the b-school blogosphere. We hope that good news continues to roll in for aspirants, and that current students find their ‘groove’ for this new semester. Until next week, have a great weekend!

Fridays From The Frontline
Hello and welcome to Fridays From the Frontline, Clear Admit’s round up of the best news from a battalion of b-school bloggers. This week found applicants getting results and sitting for interviews, while current students were talking internships and networking.
Dream Chaser shared an interesting video about the future of Asia, which he found on an ESADE student blog. Steve thought that the new dean of NYU had great ideas, but felt they might be difficult to implement. After weeks of prep, and foot surgery, XLick finally had his Stern interview (which we hope he shares with the Clear Admit Wiki). Rocky jumped into a forum discussion about the value of an MBA. In the days leading up to Haas notifications, MBA Hopeful had two Berkeley-inspired dreams and eventually found out that, in waking life, he was on the waitlist. Madalogue received a zap from Darden, but prepared for her Olin interview. HBSDork continued to prepare for his arrival in Boston by doing his ‘due diligence’ on possible apartments. The majority of Natalie’s applications were complete, but she still had one more round with the GMAT to complete. Biz Wiz anticipated Apple’s newest product and presented his theory that Steve Jobs is from another planet.
Kellogg ‘11 Orlando, having finally gotten to the interview stage of recruiting, shared his thoughts on how to handle the consulting recruiting process. IIMC ‘11 Tauqueer made up a new word: ‘detweetify.’ Wake Forest ‘11 Omne returned to the blog after a lengthy absence, and also started his summer internship interviews. Fuqua ‘11 Choc Heaven attributed her long blog silence to the ‘all engulfing’ nature of business school. Stanford ‘11 Palo Alto for a While delved a bit deeper into what made her first semster difficult, but noted that it was becoming harder to remember the struggle. Haas ‘11 Lauren did not find her second semester to be any easier than the first.
Darden ‘10 Mechanigal enjoyed the opportunity to listen to an alumnus share his insights on how best to move forward professionally, and was going to try to ‘think big, and then small.’ LBS ‘10 Out on a Limb shamelessly plugged his school’s recent success in the Financial Times ranking of MBA programs. Darden ‘10 Oren also received some appreciated words of wisdom from Darden alumni, which included the importance of networking and marketing. Marshall ‘10 Andrew reflected on how his perspective on networking had changed over the years. Harvard ‘10 Gabrielle couldn’t believe she was in her final semester and consolidated past course material so it could better fit underneath her bed. Darden ‘10 July Dream received a full-time job offer and, as much as she was enjoying her Swedish exchange experience, realized that Darden students are spoiled. After only a few days, McCombs ‘10 Metal couldn’t believe how busy his semester schedule had become.
And that concludes this week’s issue of Fridays From the Frontline. We hope all applicant bloggers continue to keep us updated on their latest acceptance/zap news, and that current students are enjoying their return to academia. Until next week, have a great weekend!

Fridays From The Frontline
It’s Friday, and that must mean it’s time for another Fridays From The Frontline, Clear Admit’s titular trek through the tantalizing lives of MBA applicants and student bloggers. As the new year settled, and most round two deadlines passed, applicants were wondering what to do with their spare time just as current students got back into gear for their new set of courses.
Foo-Blogger encouraged his readers to donate funds to help Haitians cope with the recent earthquake. LBiggs completed his last round two applications, and made a list of the four most important lessons he gained from the experience. Ardent Meerkat also finished up her applications and found that not giving herself too much time to obsess over the details was an effective tactic for her. Though he was disappointed with his most recent GMAT score, MBADreamz did join a theater troupe, start going to the gym and contributing to an NGO. MBA Hopeful still felt positive about his Haas chances, even without an invite and round 1 results just days away. Madalogue turned her attentions to what she would eat once she was in an MBA program. AJ considered her ‘dream jobs,’ three of which seemed like they would be more easily achieved with an MBA. Braveheart attended a Chicago Booth lecture and networking reception. XLick spent his three day weekend prepping for his Stern interview, which included meeting with a current student and hearing his memories of his successful interview experience. A Beautiful Mind received the disappointing zap news from Fuqua, but was glad he had the opportunity to meet some current Fuqua students. Steve recounted the conundrum a colleague faced in terms of professional development and bolstering her resume for a future MBA application.
First years were a quiet bunch on the whole, but a few checked in. INSEAD ‘11 Out of my Jeans attended his first INSEAD party and was overwhelmed by the number of names and faces to remember. Kellogg ‘11 Orlando attended a presentation by Professor Harry Kraemer, and touched upon some of the reasons the man is a dynamic and interesting speaker. Foster ‘11 Helen began her winter quarter and shared the progress of her marathon training team, ‘Run Foster Run.’
McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces celebrated her first day of her last semester. Harvard ‘10 Gabrielle encouraged one and all to attend the school’s 2010 Entertainment and Media conference. Darden ‘10 JulyDream was pleasantly surprised by the international diversity at her Swedish exchange program, and shared questions posed to her by a Darden undergrad about the merits of an MBA. McCombs ‘10 Metal figured out most of his schedule, but was looking for a final course to round up his last semester. Fuqua ‘10 Randy asked what could be better that receiving one statistics book in the mail?
And that’s all the news from the b-school blogosphere for this week. We hope that bloggers receiving round one notifications get to smile at the results, and we wish the best of luck to current students getting back into ‘the school groove.’ Until next week, have a great weekend!

Most students are back in school after a nice holiday break, and many applicants are hearing good, or bad, news from their round one schools while perservering with a few last details on round two applications.
Steve received a saddening zap from NYU but had a friend putting in a good word at Cornell. A Beautiful Mind got word that he was invited for an interview at Cornell, but wouldn’t be able to make it in person. XLick prepared for his NYU interview and was going to hold off on a Cornell visit until he knew if he was tagged for an interview. HBSDork met up with a number of his future classmates in the West Village, and found them to be a humble, non-snobby, bunch. AJ found the financial realities of b-school more manageable with a little research. MBA Hopeful wondered about the timing of first and second round deadlines. Ardent Meerkat finished her Wharton and Duke applications, and happily shared her Cornell interview invitation news. Hari prepared for his Skype interview in a number of ways, and shared what he learned with his readers. Rocky gained admission to Babson, with a 25K scholarship, and was properly enthusiastic about the news.
Kellogg ‘11 Windsor saw venture capital value in Twitter. Boston ‘11 Felish prepared for her Business Law and Ethics class by making herself a bowl of oatmeal. Kellogg ‘11 Shobhit was quite excited about Apple’s Tablet. Fellow Kellogg ‘11 Orlando observed a number of different kinds of teamwork at the school, and shared his thoughts on how they all compare. Harvard ‘11 Military To Business compiled a list of things HBS students do over break, and commented on the high number of classmates interested in climbing mountains. Stanford ‘11 Palo Alto For Awhile started her new quarter with a fresh attitude and finally wrapped her mind around the phrase ‘grades don’t matter.’ Haas ‘11 Sunnyside Up began preparing cover letters for her summer internship search.
Darden ‘10 Mechanigal joined fellow classmates on a West Coast Job Trek, and continued her love affair with San Francisco. Harvard Gabrielle was generally pleased with her grades for this past semester, explained the school’s grading curve, and went on a holiday cruise with her mother. Darden’ 10 July Dream’s Leadership and Theater class concluded with a 36 hour mad rush to write, direct and perform a play, which a success. Fuqua ‘10 Ian Comando considered Google’s recent decisions in China from a business perspective.
We now conclude this week’s tour of the b-school bloggers’ respective lives and wish everyone a marvelous weekend! Until next week, good luck!

Fridays From The Frontline
Welcome to a brand new edition of Fridays From The Frontline, Clear Admit’s weekly roundup of all the news of the MBA applicant and student blogging space. This week many were still getting accustomed to 2010, taking moments to reflect on 2009 before going forward.
MBA Hopeful explained why she applied to MIT and Haas but passed on a number of other schools. Rocky Balboa realized, a little too late, that UCLA expressed a preference for essay font sizes of 11 or higher. Madalogue shared the networking tips she learned from a Forbes article. Bizwiz decided, for better or worse, to apply in the third round. XLick received an interview invite from NYU and already had a ‘game plan.’ A Beautiful Mind received an acceptance from Olin, and submitted his Ross application. Steve celebrated Christmas Eve without his family for the first time and was going on a ‘wedding diet.’
Kellogg ‘11 Windsor provided a ‘day in the life’ schedule of his day, which involved a lot of ‘walking through the tundra.’ Harvard ‘11 Military to Business questioned whether there was a predetermined path for individual to follow and explained his own life philosophy. Kellogg ‘11 Orlando shared the walk from his apartment to campus on the first day of the winter quarter. Ross ‘11 Raghunathrao recapped his M-Trek experience and encouraged all incoming students to take advantage of the opportunity. Haas ‘11 Sunnyside Up compiled her ‘best of 2009′ list, and starting her MBA made it.
Marshall ‘10 Andrew met Alfred Mann Institute’s Head of Marketing and Business Development, Nathalie Gossett. Darden ‘10 Mechanigal dared to look back at the ups and downs of 2009. Darden ‘10 July Dream received a full-time job offer, but struggled to decide whether to take it. In preparation for a class trip to India, Fuqua ‘10 Dan and Naveen posted a number of helpful travel tips.
And that wraps up this latest look-see into the lives of MBA bloggers around the globe. For current students, we hope that the last days of break, or the first days of classes, are all you could wish from them. For applicants, we hope that the majority of your deadlines are behind you and that deep breaths and a positive attitude will see you through until more decisions are sent out. Until next week, have a great weekend!

Fridays From The Frontline
Hi there and welcome to Fridays From The Frontline, Clear Admit’s regular roll around the rollicking and rousing MBA blogosphere. With the holidays coming up and exams simmering down, this was a rather quiet week on the blogging front, with applicants having the most to say.
XLick met up with Stern and Johnson current students and alumni in the East Village and appreciated the opportunity to hear their perspectives on the MBA application process. Steve recapped his trip to Ithaca and interview at Cornell, complete with a narrow escape from the epic snowstorm of last weekend. Bizwiz completed seven of his ten GMAT prep books. Illuminati compared business school ranking systems. Madalogue received an acceptance from Tepper and prepared for her Darden interview with the Clear Admit Darden Interview Guide. Ardent Meerkat retook the GMAT but didn’t improve her quant score as much as she had hoped. Hari read books to take his mind off the wait for news from b-schools. Foo Blogger, having already received a zap from Kellogg didn’t hear anything happy from MIT. Rocky flew into Bangalore for fun and a Babson interview.
Kellogg ‘11 Windsor led a trek to the bay area and recounted its overall success. Kellogg ‘11 Orlando recapped his experience with the Neighborhood Business Initiative. Haas ‘11 Sunny Side Up wished all her readers a merry Christmas.
Darden ‘10 July Dream was in India and packing a whole heck of a lot each day. McCombs ‘10 Metal was headed home to India as well, and hoped the food smelled as good as always. Ross ‘10 M@ compiled the best of his 2009 experiences, including getting fat in South Dakota. McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces reviewed her Corporations class. Darden ‘10 Mechanigal reflected on the great group of independent women she knew at the school. INSEAD ‘10 Out Of My Jeans prepared for his departure to France with quite the to do list.
That concludes this week’s Fridays From The Frontline. As first round zaps roll in and second round deadlines loom, it certainly is a fraught time for current applicants but we hope that, for those who celebrate it, their Christmas holidays allow them a little respite from the stress. Until next week, happy holidays!

Fridays From The Frontline
Welcome back to Fridays From The Frontline, Clear Admit’s weekly wander through the blogs of MBA students and those aspiring to join them in business school bliss. This week was a relatively quiet week, applicants were hearing a bit more from their round one schools, mostly in the form of interview invites, while current students were wrapping up their classes and exams.
Rocky Balboa flew to Bangalore to see his family and girlfriend, and planned on attending an upcoming Darden event in Delhi. XLick finished his Cornell rough drafts and planned to send them out to be read by family and friends. Steve received a Johnson interview invite, and had the opportunity to be in close quarters with a number of celebrities, Bill Clinton and Arnold Palmer among them. A Beautiful Mind wondered whether not getting an invite to interview from Fuqua was a definite sign of being zapped. Procrastinator was also feeling a little down after Fuqua’s lack of interview invite. Bizwiz prepared quite the GMAT and CAT study schedule for himself. Illuminati sat for the GMAT exam and felt positive about the experience, in spite of a few ways in which he could have excelled even more. A good GMAT score for AJ made his desire to apply to b-school official. MadBubbles struggled with a fierce case of impulsive email checking, but found that there was an app for that. LBiggs almost didn’t see his MIT interview invite as a result of some fickle software, and wished the news was better from Kellogg.
Harvard ‘10 Gabrielle was in temporarily more upscale digs after a fire in her dorm. Fuqua ‘10 Randy considered the concept of a well-rounded MBA. Darden ‘10 Sameer planned to take his exams in India, perhaps after a trip to the mountains. Kellogg ‘11 Michael explained why he was sticking to his desire to enter the venture capital industry. Kellogg ‘11 Shobhit watched a video about social media and found it interesting, though perhaps not totally convincing. Harvard ‘11 Military to Business kept himself busy almost every moment of his waking life in an effort to get the fullest possible MBA experience. Kellogg ‘11 Orlando felt that it was necessary to clarify the sort of leadership opportunities students would get at the school.
And that concludes this week’s fantastical foray through the sometimes funny and often fraught application and learning experiences of the MBA blogosphere. We hope that, as more news arrives for aspiring students, most of it is good, and that the bad news is softened by good friends and round two essays!

Fridays From The Frontline
Hi there, and welcome to Fridays From The Frontline, Clear Admit’s marvelous meander through the MBA blogosphere. This week applicants and students covered all sorts of subjects, from
Steve went to a NYC Johnson information session and had a nice interaction with the school’s assistant dean. Steve wasn’t the only one at the session, he ran into XClick, who, hearing about Johnson’s finance opportunities, regretted not looking at the school sooner. A Beautiful Mind, having submitted all his round one applications, was having trouble killing the anxiety of waiting for news, but had a number of possible ways to distract himself. LBiggs was also finding the wait for news quite nerve wracking. Madalogue shared her opinion about when one should attend an MBA tour. Hari got word that he was on IESE’s waitlist and explained why this was his personal equivalent of purgatory. Fooblogger received an invite for a Kellogg telephone interview, but worried that an interview over the phone wasn’t the best way to present himself. Rocky was amused by a Babson representative’s response to his recent phone call.
Boston ‘11 Felish only had two remaining classes before the end of her first semester. Carey ‘11 Maverick acknowledged that times were a bit tough, but encouraged all his peers to be optimistic! IIMB ‘11 Happy Libran couldn’t believe that he was 75% done with his MBA.
Darden ‘10 Oren reflected on how lucky he and his fellow b-schoolers were to have so many friends around them. McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces completed her first final exam of the semester and looked back on the process of getting into and being in her “Leading People and Organizations” course. Darden ‘10 JulyDream completed all her exams for Q2 and began to prepare for her exchange program in Sweden. And, finally, McCombs ‘10 Metal analyzed Black Friday.
It was a rather quiet week for MBA students, which we take as a sign that they’re working hard and acing exams left and right, or at least that’s what we hope. We hope to hear more from all MBA bloggers next week as winter begins in earnest and more application news is released. Until then, have a great weekend and good luck!

Welcome to the latest edition of Clear Admit’s Fridays From The Frontline! Every week we take a tour through the many blogs of those hoping to gain entry into an MBA program, and current students, whose application process is thankfully behind them. This week many MBA hopefuls were taking a collective breath as the last of round one deadlines passed. Students continue to be engaging in all sorts of activity, from watching classmates sing for a marketing competition to accepting job offers, current MBA bloggers are certainly a busy bunch.
Madalogue shared some of her favorite passages from a recent article by Tim Berry about the value of an MBA to an entrepreneur. Steve felt strangely empty without applications to work on, but found an MBA-oriented site that he encouraged other applicants to check out. ArdentMeerkat submitted her first application (Cornell) and found that seeing an end in sight helped her focus on her GMAT prep. A Beautiful Mind enjoyed Rotman’s class video, had plans to celebrate a few family birthdays and looked back on his set of applications. Procrastinator turned in his last round one application (Fuqua) and hoped his recommenders wouldn’t mind four more schools over the coming months. XLick asked his readers for suggestions for round two schools, and expressed his thanks and thoughts on the advice he was given. LBiggs spoke with a few Sloan alumni about how the application process works, and shared their overview with his readers. Rocky Balboa received zap news from Wharton, but felt great about finishing up his Babson application.
Kellogg ‘11 Orlando shared a video of him practicing for the AT Kearney competition and hoped to look back at it in two years’ time and see improvement. Boston ‘11 Felish enjoyed the Net Impact conference she and fellow classmates attended in Ithaca, but continued to be very busy. Kellogg ‘11 Windsor appreciated fellow classmates’ video for the Kellogg Marketing Competition. Chicago Booth ‘11 GlobThink thought that a recent lecture by Professor Sapra was one of the best he ever attended. Kellogg ‘11 Shobhit found that, once in b-school, rankings were not as central to the experience as one might think. Stanford ‘11 Sunnyside Up’s laptop had a scary run-in with 12 ounces of water, which has led to her decision to back up her computer each and every night. Goizueta ‘11 Ahembeea wished he turn his blog into a photoblog in order to properly explain how much he was enjoying his b-school classes and community. LBS ‘11 Alex wanted to hear his readers’ thoughts on his concept of ‘excitement management.’
Darden ‘10 July Dream didn’t feel that her blog was in any way censored by the school, and explained why. Marshall ‘10 Andrew explained what made his Leadership and Executive Development course one of his favorites. McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces made butternut squash soup and became compulsive about her reading. Harvard ‘10 Inside HBS accepted a full-time position and wrote about Harvard’s recruiting regulations. McCombs ‘10 Metal played a good tennis match and had his own phrase included in a group project’s slides. Darden ‘10 Sameer wrote about the effort it took to start the Darden South Asia Club.
And that concludes this fresh Fridays From The Frontline. We hope that all applicants are taking a moment to regather their strength before more interview invites and final decisions come out, and that current students are making the most of their MBA experience. Keep blogging and have a great weekend!

Fridays From The Frontline
Hello and welcome to Fridays From The Frontline, Clear Admit’s ongoing cyber summarization of the thoughts and actions of MBA bloggers. The lull between rounds one and two is becoming a little less lulling, leading many to start getting back into the essay writing, GMAT prepping mode. Meanwhile, current students are in the midst of recruiting and reflection.
Steve and his fiancee visited the NYU campus and enjoyed sitting in on a class, but weren’t quite as thrilled with the student conversation that followed. A Beautiful Mind submitted his Fuqua materials and waited for his final recommender to submit their part of his application package. XLick had a wild weekend. Illuminati compared studying for the GMAT to going to the gym. ArdentMeerkat realized that her application deadline was drawing near, and praised her essay reader’s honesty.
Chicago Booth ‘11 GlobThink expressed his thoughts and feelings about the school’s approach to management education. Kellogg ‘11 Shobhit attended a panel about how to maneuver the recruiting process while keeping your goals intact. Wake Forest ‘11 Omne had this piece of advice for prospective b-schoolers: invest in a comfortable chair and good lighting. Kellogg ‘11 Orlando also had recruiting on his mind, but he was paying a bit more attention to the schwag. Harvard ‘11 Military To Business shared an interesting article about the rise in military MBA applicants. Kellogg ‘11 D.G. presented his thoughts on what media should do, using the Economist and the Wall Street Journal as examples. Stanford ‘11 Palo Alto For Awhile was decompressing a little after going through mid-term exams. Fuqua ‘11 Choc Heaven, remembering how difficult it was, as an international candidate, to get a student’s perspective during her application process, commented on the school’s team spirit and a few other elements of the program.
McCombs ‘10 Paradox2Pieces listed a few interesting things to do on UT Austin’s campus. Marshall ‘10 Andrew suggested that getting job interview results via Twitter might have value … then reconsidered. Darden ‘10 Mechanigal reflected on how quickly time has gone by, and the friendships and memories she has created in the last two years. Harvard ‘10 Gabrielle looked back on the Marketing & CPG conference that she helped organize. Darden ‘10 JulyDream was overwhelmed by some of the challenges her plan to go to Sweden for the third quarter was causing, finding classes taught in English being just one obstacle to overcome. McCombs ‘10 Metal was trying to keep a book club in existence and Melbourne ‘10 RonJon continued to refer to himself in the second person, focusing mainly on his new ‘bizcom’ skills.
And that concludes this week’s Fridays From The Frontline. The weather is decidedly more chilly for many of us in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast U.S., the days have also gotten longer and the impulse to start slumbering around seven isn’t always easy to fight … but we hope those of you, regardless of geographical location, stay awake for whatever sort of studying/work you have on your plates, and that this weekend will serve as a nice respite from your busier week days. Until next week!

Fridays From The Frontline
Hi, and welcome to Fridays From The Frontline, Clear Admit’s weekly investigation of the lifestyles of MBA applicant and student bloggers. This week many were busy watching baseball or recuperating from their Halloween weekends, but it wasn’t all play. Some applicants had finishing touches for their applications, while others were getting good news. Students found themselves taking exams and looking toward the future, but were, on the whole, in good spirits.
A Beautiful Mind arrived in Hyderabad and wrote out an approximate dialogue of his ISB interview. Steve dressed up as his fiancee for Halloween, was happy with the results of the World Series and started to wonder about Yale. XClick completed his NYU application, and was quite pleased with the last game of the World Series. BizWiz found that his apartment renovation was taking a little longer than originally planned, but saw an end in sight. Illuminati found his Manhattan GMAT practice exam experience gave him a number of ways to improve. Procrastinator shared a very amusing chart on the exact steps one can take to get the most out of their procrastination, and turned in his Darden application. Congratulations go out to Rocky, who was happy to share his acceptance into Rotman’s class of 2012.
Foster ‘11 Helen dressed up as Pippi Longstocking for Halloween and had a lot of mid-terms. Kellogg ‘11 Inspired could hardly believe it had been a year since he first visted campus and learned about the school’s MMM program, which he then discussed in more detail. Kellogg ‘11 Orlando happily dressed in drag for a musical competition, and helped his team come in second.
INSEAD ‘09 MBAMRS allowed a guest blogger to give a little perspective on the school’s Singapore campus, and found herself withdrawing from the Fontainbleau social scene with only 4 weeks left before graduation. McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces was trying to figure out what her next big hairy audacious goal was going to be. Darden ‘10 Mechanigal took a nice and easy weekend, with a day trip to D.C. and plenty of fall foliage. Harvard ‘10 Gabrielle couldn’t believe that there was less than a month of class time left in the fall semester. Darden ‘10 July Dream outlined a lot of the rest of her b-school time, and it seemed especially jam-packed with travel. McCombs ‘10 Metal celebrated Halloween while grading papers. INSEAD ‘10 Out Of My Jeans reflected on a failed business plan and how, once he had his MBA, he would avoid some of the pitfalls from this earlier experience. Fuqua EMBAs ‘09 Randy and Stefan did a little skiing in Dubai.
And that concludes this week’s Fridays From The Frontlines. While those of us at Clear Admit are a bit disappointed with the World Series finale, we’re optimistic for applicants and their upcoming interview season, not to mention the Round 2 deadlines, which seem far off, but will be here before you can say ‘my short-term and long-term career goals are’! Until next week, have a great weekend!

Fridays From The Frontline
Hi there and welcome to another edition of Fridays From the Frontline, Clear Admit’s endeavor into understanding the MBA applicant and student experience from the inside out. A few bloggers, silent over the summer, have come back to share their thoughts on the first few weeks of school (whether as first or second years, it seems a little adjustment time is necessary). The Kellogg blogging contingent had quite a lot to say about their KWEST trips, and applicants continued to cover all aspects of their application experiences.
Steve shared his thoughts about Clear Admit’s NYU Stern School Guide, ate sushi in New York and found the perfect wedding rehearsal dinner spot. Bizwiz concluded his western trip a little earlier due to sad news. Illuminati considered the logistics of getting an MBA in Spain. AJ read a book geared towards women in the business world and learned the author’s thoughts on the ‘7 deadly sins a woman can make at work.’ ArdentMeerkat gave a very in depth explanation of how she has chosen the schools to which she hopes to apply. Hari wrote about the MBA cost v. ROI subject that so many applicants consider during their admissions process. One Fresh Kid took the GMAT and got a score with which he was quite pleased. Rocky had a moment of Rotman interview deja vu.
INSEAD ‘09 MBAMRS seemed to be in better spirits than she has all summer, perhaps as a result of classes starting back up? McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces told a story about a classmate and their entrepreneurial transformation. Harvard ‘10 Harvard Bound was pleased to see her video contribution to institutional memory was up on HBS’s site. Darden ‘10 JulyDream was kind enough to respond to Clear Admit’s interest in more photographs with a great summer photo slide show, she also commented on her perspective of the ’second year myth.’ McCombs ‘10 Metal laughed at his workload.
A number of Kellogg bloggers commented on their recently completed KWEST trips. Kellogg ‘10 La Coguette was back with a less than stellar review of her intern experience and a round up of thoughts about leading a KWEST trip. Kellogg ‘11 Mike’s KWEST trip to Malaysia was fantastic, as has his other b-school related experiences. Orlando enjoyed his experiences in Hong Kong and Macau, though $10 beers were not entirely appreciated. DG found that his non-American status made it sometimes difficult to get to know his fellow KWEST travelers.
Emory ‘11 MissionMBA was on hand for the first NYSE bell ringing on an academic institution’s campus. Stanford ‘11 PaloAltoForAwhile found that her new Macintosh computer was not as trouble-free as she had hoped. And, finally, Haas ‘11 SunnySideUp resurfaced and shared her insights on her orientation week in Berkeley.
And that concludes this week’s round up of the thoughts and actions of MBA bloggers. It’s great to see returning voices in the fold, and hope to see more as the weeks pass. Until then, have a great Labor Day (if you’re US-based)!

Fridays From The Frontline
Hi there, and welcome to Fridays From The Frontlines, Clear Admit’s continuing coverage of the copious bloggers of the MBA blogosphere. As August comes to a close, things are heating up in the applicant pool; more essays are completed, school choices are honed and worries over recommenders grow. For those who have successfully gained entrance into b-schools, classes have either started or will be starting very soon. Summer’s relatively easy schedule is being replaced with 80 page readings and non-stop socializing. Just another week for b-school bloggers!
Steve shared an article about women in finance and explained how he defined ‘risky.’ Xlick extolled the virtues of Clear Admit’s wiki, especially in terms of interview preparation. AtypicalHBS was struggling to stay calm and collected when communicating with a tardy recommender. Illuminati listed some of his GMAT quantitative tips while recovering from a bad back. ArdentMeerkat completed the majority of her essays and decided that, as much as she liked it, Chicago Booth wasn’t a good fit for her. Hari planned on polishing his INSEAD essays. Procrastinator modified what he planned to accomplish in terms of Round 1 applications. Rocky Balboa’s work on his Wharton essays temporarily stalled, but he wasn’t overly concerned.
McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces discovered UT Austin’s Gregory Gym pool and had a good swim to ease her annoyance over a fickle car. Darden ‘10 JulyDream managed to get through the toughest part of her week and considered locations for her post-graduation life. McCombs ‘10 Metal confirmed his fall course schedule. INSEAD ‘10 OutOfMyJeans talked super heroes and identified his own version of kryptonite: waiting until the last second.
Foster ‘11 Helen remembered the first political campaign for which she worked. BU ‘11 Felish was excited about the experiences she would gain through team learning. Kellogg ‘12 Jeremy won a National Black MBA Association scholarship. Kellogg ‘11 Orlando was probably enjoying his last moments of his Hong Kong/Macau KWEST trip. Wake Forest ‘11 Omne survived his first day of official class with the help of a few donuts.
And that concludes this week’s edition of Fridays From The Frontline. It seems like summer just started a few weeks ago, but the time has flown by. Returning students have completed their internships and now look towards their post-MBA career paths while a whole new slew of applicants see each day passing with a mind fo round 1 deadlines. It’s still early, however, and Clear Admit hopes that all members of the b-school blogging community take advantage of these warm days.

Welcome to another edition of Fridays From The Frontline, Clear Admit’s weekly blog post dedicated to the writings of MBA applicants and students. This year’s batch of hopefuls continues to cover a wide range of application prep topics. First year students are packing up their bags and heading into the unknown (with a lot of excitement and anxiety) while returning students are sharing their internship experiences and preparing for their final year of b-school.
Steve was going to start his essay writing this weekend. Xlick went to a family wedding and went running with a CBS graduate. Atypical HBS worried about what was taking her third recommender so long to turn in their form. Illuminati listed the schools to which he was thinking about applying and the reasons behind these choices. AJ considered what she needed to do to become a ‘leader of consequence.’ Hari expected that he wouldn’t post again until he took the GMAT. MilesToMBA updated his blog with news of his GMAT prep and his school decision process.
McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces talked online dispute resolution through the Skills Enrichment Institute. Marshall ‘10 Andrew checked in with another post about his healthcare internship and shared a video that addressed the many different perspectives on what would be best for the future of healthcare. Harvard ‘10 Harvard Bound was on her way to Disney World, but took a moment to encourage her readers to look into the Global Fund for Children. With five days until her summer internship was complete, Darden ‘10 JulyDream recounted her intern class’ trip to a collaboration lab, and getting to hear the perspective of the company’s CFO over dessert. McCombs ‘10 Metal was already planning his winter trip to India, which wouldn’t be complete without running a marathon. Melbourne ‘10 Ronjon continued to write in the second person, sharing a bit of what the beauty of an MBA was in “your” eyes.
Kellogg ‘11 Mike wrote about emptying his condo and watching his worldly belongings get driven away in a truck, none of which he will see again … until Saturday. Kellogg ‘12 Jeremy attended a Pepsi-sponsored pre-MBA workshop. Kellogg ‘11 Orlando had a wild and crazy last week in Austin. HBS ‘11 MilitaryToBusiness outlined some of the facts and fictions of the post 9/11 GI Bill. Chicago Booth ‘11 B-School Diva strongly recommended pre-MBA workshops to those interested in pursuing an MBA. Fuqua ‘11 Vitaly found that a fair amount of the pre-class preparation/orientation focused on ’soft skills’, and explained why he thought this was valuable. Fellow Fuqua ‘11 classmate ChocHeaven was loving her orientation experience.
And that’s the gossip going around the blogosphere this week. As more new students arrive on campus, we’re sure that we’ll hear even more stories of class bonding, and will be given even more insights into what truly makes the MBA experience a unique and powerful experience! Until then, have a great weekend!

Another week has flown by and it’s time again for another round of Fridays From The Frontline, Clear Admit’s weekly blog post dedicated to sharing the ups and downs of the MBA applicant and student blogosphere. Much has happened since we last checked in with bloggers, some aspirants have made serious progress in their application process while first-year students are beginning to arrive on their respective campuses.
The ever-growing applicant blogger pool continued to have a wide variety of thoughts and experiences worth sharing with their readers. Steve found an article about MBA compensation that he thought would be interesting to share, and posted photographs of the crazy summer weather the Northeast has been having. XLick completed his Columbia application but planned to check and re-check it for a few weeks before finally submitting it to the adcom. Bizwiz continued to travel the roads of the west coast taking many great photographs of nature. Illuminati reviewed a book written by a Stanford graduate, and compared the Manhattan GMAT practice exams to those of Kaplan or GPrep. Aj explained why she wanted to work abroad at this juncture in her life while Procrastinator outlined the pros and cons, as he saw them, of MIT Sloan. And Rocky Balboa shared some of the information he received from helpful conversations with Fuqua and Wharton students.
Second year students were finishing up their internships and looking ahead to job searches. INSEAD ‘09 MBAMRS was not in the best of spirits and gave a few reasons for this state of mind, including a high-pitched and pink-clad supervisor at her current internship. Darden ‘10 Mechanigal was in the midst of completing the last week of her internship and was looking forward to some un-hurried time with her family before returning to Charlottesville. McCombs ‘10 Metal, after considering the Mandarin symbol for risk, took on a new freelance project. Darden ‘10 JulyDream pondered what questions she’d like to ask the CFO of the company for which she has been interning.
Kellogg ‘12 Jeremy recounted his experience at a Bain recruiting event, and the importance the recruiter gave to those with strong finance skills. BU ‘11 Felish summed up her summer in pictures. Kellogg ‘11 Orlando looked back on his college years and his time at IBM as he prepared to write goodbye emails to many of his co-workers. Goizueta ‘11 Ahembeea recounted his first few days of International Student Orientation. Fuqua ‘11 Strange Consultant was also participating in orientation activities and commented on the significance of Facebook in getting to know his classmates. Kellogg ‘11 D.G. identified a few characteristics anyone who wants to succeed in venture capital must posess, like business acumen and people management skills. Haas ‘11 Lauren shared her last regular dessert recipe and warned her readers that her blog’s content would be decidedly b-school oriented for the foreseeable future.
And this concludes this week’s triumphant traipse through the trials and tribulations of the many individuals generous enough to share their experiences with the larger world. As the temperatures (at least in the northern hemisphere) continue to climb into August, we hope everyone keeps their cool and remains focused on their goals. Remember, if you maintain an MBA blog and want to be included in Fridays From The Frontline, just email us at wiki@clearadmit.com!

Fridays From The Frontline
Hi there and welcome to Fridays From The Frontline, Clear Admit’s masterfully mighty meander through the MBA blogosphere. The days of summer are in full swing for many, though the impending orientation programs that many of our bloggers see on the horizon may make summer feel like it’s going by faster than ever. MBA hopefuls find themselves asking questions and preparing for the intense emotions and schedules the application process demands.
Applicants were doing all sorts of things over this past week. Steve was on his way to Tennessee for a family reunion and a little down-time, but promised exciting news upon his return. XLick attended InsideMBA’s information reception, met with a Rochester Simon representative and enjoyed the event’s crab cakes while avoiding the open bar. Rocky was discouraged by the lack of Wharton’s response to his questions about the program but planned on ‘sucking it up’ and applying any way. McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces returned to Austin and participated in an MBA information session for interested parties where she shared her opinion that b-school is not the place for recent graduates with no work experience.
Travel and travel preparation were on a number of bloggers’ minds this week. Goizueta ‘11 Ahembeea landed in Atlanta with a lot of heavy baggage and was thankful that a member from the school picked him up and made him feel a little less lost. HBS ‘11 MilitaryToBusiness, with his 10,000 pounds of belongings packed and loaded, was traveling a little heavier than Ahembeea. Haas ‘11 Lauren also was in the throes of packing and moving on up to Berkeley. Still in the application stage of his b-school path, Bizwiz camped his way through California, sharing a number of pictures from his visit to the Stanford campus. Illuminati went Zorbing and felt more confident in his ability to answer the question of ‘why MBA’.
A lot of information was being shared this week. AtypicalHBS shared a link to an article about Harvard’s increased class sizes. ArdentMeerkat took another step in the direction of her MBA goals by officially telling her boss about her intentions. Hari shared the ‘three P’s’ of his GMAT preparation. McCombs ‘10 Metal shared a little wisdom as well: chop onions, not fingers. INSEAD ‘09 MBAMRS had a few choice London lessons she wanted to give her readers. Marshall ‘10 Andrew was half-way through his internship in Milwaukee and had a number of positive things to say about the experience and city. Goizueta ‘11 MissionMBA revealed his true self.
Others were already looking back at their summers and sharing additional thoughts or insights about their time in the warmer months. Melbourne ‘10 RonJon referred to himself in the second person and shared a photograph of his new niece. HBS ‘10 Gabrielle celebrated her 25th birthday and couldn’t believe how quickly her internship, and summer, has gone by. Darden ‘10 JulyDream was in the homestretch of her internship and felt that she had made a lot of progress on a big project. Kellogg ‘11 Orlando was also in his homestretch, literally selling his home and getting geared up for the move to Evanston. Kellogg ‘11 Jeremy completed his last internship day at the Arizon Attorney General’s office. AJ asked herself what she wanted from her career and had a major hair-related breakthrough. Foster ‘11 Helen also asked herself some questions, like how to get rid of a weird smell in a washing machine. Kellogg ‘11 Mike couldn’t believe he had been unemployed for three weeks and only had 18 days before his big move from the east coast to Evanston.
And that’s the round-up for the week. As the weather gets warmer and the days dwindle we hope that incoming/returning students soak up as much relaxation as they can before the academic year really gets going. Clear Admit also continues to wish all MBA hopefuls the best in their early application stages. Until next week, this has been another amicable amble through the b-school blogosphere.

Fridays From The Frontline
Welcome to Fridays From The Frontline, Clear Admit’s coverage of business school bloggers’ sometimes brutal and sometimes beautiful experiences while striving towards an MBA. It’s been a week of reflections from the sometimes overwhelmed MBA applicants and students, with numerous bloggers powering through stressful preparation for their respective pieces of the MBA process.
Steve was not pleased with his own GMAT prep and strongly considered hiring a personal tutor (perhaps he’s been enjoying our GMAT Test Prep Profiles Series?). Hari, with the help of his own tutor, was taking practice LSAT exams in an effort to make the GMAT questions seem less challenging. AMBAGuy tried to keep his life from getting over saturated with GMAT/MBA-specific material. Illuminati wondered about how important the GMAT actually was and recounted the b-school search process. ArdentMeerkat sifted through her stories in preparation for writing her essays. RockyBalboa recounted his conversation with a Fuqua student and finally narrowed down his school selection. XLick worried about pushing his recommendation writer too far and confessed his plans to submit Columbia as soon as possible. AJ wasn’t worrying about his applications; he was too busy thinking about where he would be in 20 years.
While the Class of 2011 scrambles to take care of last minute matriculation details (presumably taking them away from their regular blogging duties), a couple of them offered helpful pre-MBA reflections. Kellogg ‘11 D.G. divulged a list of to-do lists and Goizuetta ‘11 Ahembeea concluded his pre-MBA postings with a bright outlook for the future.
Current students (rising second years, that is) had a myriad of topics on their minds as well. INSEAD ‘09 MBAMrs, after a momentary funk, became determined to make Fontainbleu ‘hers.’ McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces was thinking about money and men and asked her readers how long they would wait for a significant other to get their act together. Darden ‘10 Mechanigal thought about money, too, mainly that she was enjoying spending it at the Colaba Causeway shopping area of Bombay. Though fellow Darden ‘10 student, JulyDream, may have been in Vegas she kept the majority of her money in her pockets, not slot machines or poker tables. Kellogg ‘10 Orlando felt that he had found a blog that everyone with an interest in business should read.
Thanks for joining us this week on our journey through the MBA blogging community! If you’ve just joined – or have been milling around – the blogosphere as an MBA applicant or student, send your blog address to wiki@clearadmit.com. We’ll add you to the applicant blogger’s page of the Clear Admit Wiki and you may be featured in Fridays from the Frontline! Happy blogging!

Fridays From the Frontline
Welcome to Fridays From the Frontline, Clear Admit’s end of week post dedicated to getting to know the thoughts and lives of many b-school applicants and students. In the United States, July started with a cacophony of bangs due to its Independence Day weekend, which was properly chock full of family, friends, fun and fireworks.
XLick thoroughly enjoyed his July Fourth four-day weekend, and went to a Long Island beach, watched fireworks over the Hudson River and sang his karaoke-heart out in Philadelphia. McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces spent the majority of her holiday weekend editing a journal article. HBS ‘10 Gabrielle spent her weekend acting as Maid-of-Honor for a close friend’s nuptials in Boston. Darden ‘10 JulyDream joined 20 friends for a beach weekend in South Carolina. AMBAGuy wished America a happy birthday and shared some of his favorite GMAT prep procrastination techniques. INSEAD ‘09 MBAMrs wrote quite the stream of consciousness post about a recent trip around France while Darden ‘10 Mechanigal took a few trips to rural areas of India to learn about the residents’ buying habits.
Some bloggers were focused more on b-school matters, whether how to get in or how to make the most if it once accepted, than on the possible fireworks around them. HBS ‘11 MilitaryToBusiness provided his perspective on the ideal set of recommendations. Rocky took the GMAT for the second time and his score improved by an impressive 50 points. LBS ‘10 OutOnALimb was quoted in a Business Week article about books b-school students read and shared a few thoughts on his high-powered internship. McCombs ‘10 Metal also had reading on his mind, and listed a few of the most influential books in his life. Kellogg ‘11 Orlando felt glad that the trouble of what he was going to do with his house in Austin while in Evanston was finally going to be resolved. Haas ‘11 Lauren, with a lot less worry, found herself an apartment and roommates for the fall. Inspired by an earlier post by Orlando, Kellogg ‘11 D.G. shared his experiences of looking for an internship before b-school. Kellogg ‘11 ExistentialNudge found the reality of his no longer having to go to into the office quite strange.
We hope that all of our readers and bloggers had a great first weekend in July, regardless of their nationality, and that this upcoming break from the working life is just as rich with activity. We can’t wait to hear more about test prep (or escape), sunny locales, good friends and adventure. Until then, this has been another rollicking role through the MBA roster.

Hello and welcome to Fridays From The Frontline, Clear Admit’s persistent perusal of the MBA blogosphere. As those of us in the United States gear up for a weekend of barbeques, fireworks and a lot of red, white and blue, we thought we’d take a closer look into the lives of all those in the b-school bubble.
If applying to b-schools can be compared to a highway, many of this years applicants are still making their way up the on-ramp. Class of 2012 aspirant Xlick gave his two cents on the financial crisis while fellow hopeful Hari had a lot on his mind, from how to better his GMAT score to his planned 4th of July activities in Chicago. Travel was on some bloggers’ plates, but certainly not all. HBS ‘10 Gabrielle apologized for the lack of b-school content before sharing photographs from her recent trip to the Capitol. McCombs ‘10 Metal decided not to travel to Miami and found that his work projects were going quite well. INSEAD ‘09 MBAMRS was staying in Fontainbleu while figuring out visa issues, but had a rather annoying visitor stay with her for a week. BU ‘11 Felish didn’t have a farewell party in her honor because her entire department was let go on the same day. Foster ‘11 Helen had a better last day, and even sent her boss an email outlining some of the lessons she learned while on the job. In early zap news, Deepak was given the zap from the Reliance Fellowship but was going to move forward with his plans to apply to Stanford. Fuqua ‘11 ChocHeaven was one of a few bloggers who mentioned Michael Jackson’s death.
Haas ‘11 Lauren made a blueberry crumble, add some strawberries and whipped cream and you’ve got yourself a patriotic dessert for the weekend. Kellogg ‘11 D.G. shared a few of his canned responses to coworkers’ b-school questions. McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces noted that freaking out is a big part of being a law student. While still an intern in Atlanta, Darden ‘10 JulyDream was amazed by how the Darden name really counted, and had at least one lunch set up with superiors at her company as a result of invoking the school’s reputation. Kellogg ‘11 The.Grey.One bought a Macbook and didn’t regret the purchase, though he did plan on selling the iPod Touch that came with it. And, finally, HBS ‘11 MilitaryToBusiness broke down some of the information about Harvard’s incoming class.
For those of you residing in the states we hope you get your grill on and that those of you in the midst of application prep take a breather from quantitatitively rigorous activities…unless the activity is counting how many cobs of corn you can consume in ten minutes. We hope to hear more about the travels and travails of all members of the b-school blogosphere community but, until then, Happy July 4th!

Fridays From The Frontline
Well, hello there and welcome to the latest news from the MBA blogsophere! Clear Admit continues to do its best to track the perspectives, opinions and activities of the wildly diverse group of b-school bloggers out there. This week current students shared insights on their internships while incoming first years continued their preparations and Class of 2012 hopefuls did all they could do to get ready for the upcoming application season.
MBA hopeful Xlick considered the draw of free pizza and a GMAT club happy hour. After a disappointing second GMAT exam, fellow aspirant Hari looked to his readers for advice. Bizwiz made himself a handy chart with all the deadlines for the application season. He wasn’t the only chart maker, Kellogg ‘11 D.G. knew where he was living and made his own pie chart that showed the breakdown of where Kellogg students end up residing. W.P. Carey ‘11 Maverick had his own Indian MBA junta and just a few more things to purchase before he would be ready for school to start. Last week Metal wrote about the relative importance (or unimportance) of anonymity, this week Goizueta ‘11 Ahembeea also weighed in on how much it mattered to remain unknown. McCombs ‘10 Paragon2Pieces knew that many were beginning to prepare for their first day of b-school and conveyed her thoughts on what a first year MBA might need to know.
While we at Clear Admit thought she had already decided, Haas ‘11 Lauren announced her intention to go to, well, Haas. LBS ‘10 OutOnALimb shared a few observations from his first few days at his summer internship. Marshall ‘10 Andrew was excited that his particular field of interest and internship focus, healthcare, was in the national spotlight. Darden ‘10 Mechanigal, still in India, succumbed to tweeting. The recent Metro crash in D.C. was just one reason that HBS ‘10 Gabrielle started paying more attention to the news. Darden ‘10 JulyDream found herself intrigued by whether the public should think that Apple is Steve Jobs while McCombs ‘10 Metal described the Six Sigma project he is working on as an intern.
Summer has only started to get into the swing of things and already the applicant pool is heating up. As more and more schools announce their 2009-2010 essay topics and application deadlines we’re sure that even more applicant bloggers will come out of the woodwork. In the meantime the experiences of rising first- and second-years will keep those of us tracking the blogosphere satiated with tales of internship lessons and class preparation.
