ForumWatch: Government Consulting Meets MBA

Many MBA applicants come to the Bloomberg Businessweek Business School Forum wondering if they will make the cut. Often, they specifically ask if their pre-MBA careers will be up to par, especially if they come from non-traditional backgrounds.

Recently, TRyan23 posted a forum message asking if a background in government consulting would put a person at a disadvantage for admission to top business schools. So far, one person has offered a rather long response, which provides lots of information on how to win over the admissions committee regardless of your background. The key, says the respondent, is presenting your post-MBA goals.

Still, there is more to be said. What do admissions committees really think about particular careers and specifically government consulting? What else can applicants do to better position themselves when coming from non-traditional careers? To share your opinion, visit the “Government Consulting” discussion thread.
