Footprints on the sands of time…

I know that not everyone is religious. Some people believe more in spirituality than religion. And ofcourse there are those who are so zealous that they wage a jihaad all over the world to prove their convictions(yeah I’m still stinging from the Bombay terror attack)

I was born into a reasonably religious family. I say reasonable because the fam has always encouraged each member to live by their own beliefs – so 1 set of grandparents had an informal acquaintance with God and the other set prayed devoutly to Him everyday. My Mom visits the temple each week and my Father is an ex-atheist.

In the middle of all this, I have gone through my own ups and downs in my relationship with God. I am happy to say that our rapport has somewhat stabilised and I would like to share an extract that succintly expresses the way I feel:

“I dreamed I was walking along the beach with God, and across the sky
flashed scenes from my life.  For each scene I noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand.  One belonging to God, and the other to me.

When the last scene of my life flashed before me, I look back at the
footprints in the sand.  I noticed that many times along the path of
my life, there was only one set of footprints.  I also noticed that
it happened at the very lowest and saddest time in my life. This
really bothered me and I questioned God about it.

God, You said that once I decided to follow You, You would walk
with me all the way.  But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints.
I do not understand why, in times when I needed You most,
You should leave me alone.

Then GOD replied

My precious child,
I love you and would never, never leave you wondering during your
time of trial and suffering.  When you saw only one set of
footprints in the sand, it was then that I carried you “
