Food and Drink-Makers, Retailers Most Interested in Biz Majors

News flash: Employers are interested in hiring business majors.

According to a study just released by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), companies are most interested in hiring new college grads with degrees in business, engineering, and computer science.

Of the 172 respondents to NACE’s ‘Job Outlook 2011′ survey, 62 percent said they had plans to hire accounting grads, the most of any major. Finance, electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, and business administration/management also earned high marks.

“The results are not surprising,” said Marilyn Mackes, executive director of NACE, in a statement. “These degrees are consistently cited by organizations involved in college recruiting and hiring as among the most sought after.”

What is surprising, though, are the industries that are most interested in hiring business majors. At the top: food and beverage manufacturers, followed closely by retailers. True, these types of jobs probably aren’t at the top of biz grads lists, but considering the less than desirable hiring market we’re currently experiencing, a job is a job.
