One of the most relevant critiques I’ve heard of MBA admissions blogs is that posts are “predictably lame.” Makes sense, right? You’ve got student authors, super-excited to be a part of their school…of COURSE they are going to emphasize positives. And that’s the point — provide new content, as often as possible, highlight positive aspects of an MBA program, tap reliable and knowledgable sources.
But for prospectives, I’m SURE this is totally frustrating. Yeah, you’ll most likely catch differences between schools in subtle undertones of posts…but there’s no WAY you’ll ever read about anything unsavory. And..that’s LAME. Predictably so.
News flash — this blog is going to be different.
I don’t want to throw you another rose-colored story. I don’t want to blur rough edges. I don’t want you to read this stuff and think “did she REALLY just say she enjoyed taking that 4 hour exam?”
So I’m going to be EXCRUCIATINGLY honest with you. And you can be sure my fellow bloggers are going to give it to you straight, too.
How do I know?? Because it’s not in a Tuckie’s DNA to be fake. We’re truthful. Honest. Ethical. We have integrity in the office and in every other part of our lives. We’re hard working. We’re not afraid of a challenge. We’ll tell you there’s a problem and then we’ll help you fix it.
And honestly THAT’S why Tuck, compared to any other program, is so extraordinary. We’re fiercely loyal to our values, to each other, and to our school.
So in the interest of the “non sugar-coated” version…here are some things I’ve been finding difficult in my first term as an MBA at Tuck:
1. I’m having trouble sleeping. The energy level here is so intoxicating. Every hour of the day there are things I should be doing…and I’m still finding my way to “life balance.” So for the time being, I’m living by the mantra “who needs sleep?”
2. The workload is as tough as you imagine. We took a study group break at midnight on my birthday then got back to work on a Managerial Economics presentation for two more hours.
