Emory Film Program: Ready for Its Close-Up

Undergraduate business students at Emory University may soon have an outlet for passions of the artistic sort. Starting this fall, the school will offer a new concentration in Film and Media Management that immerses students in the creative side of film-making and the business of movie-making, including distribution, marketing, and finance. The story first appeared in Atlanta Business News.

The two-year program is a collaboration between Emory’s Department of Film Studies and the Goizueta Business School (Goizueta Undergraduate Business Profile). Andrea Hershatter, associate dean and director of Goizueta’s undergraduate business program, told the publication that the new concentration was made possible by the growth of the film and media industry in Atlanta.

“The growth of the industry…made it possible for us to connect our students to meaningful experiences and better prepare themselves to launch their careers. Film is going to end up being a huge part of Atlanta’s economy in the not-too-distant future.”

The concentration includes five courses, and will initially consist of 10 film students and 10 business students. Students will have internships in the industry, and for a course called “Content Creation,” they’ll be expected to develop, pitch, and create a pilot.
