Hello fellow GBSers, prospective GBSers, well wishers and business school blog surfers! Hope everyone is enjoying the summertime : ). I have been all over the place over the past few months participating in Study Abroad programs in Brazil and Germany and doing some personal traveling through Europe.
Sidebar: I love traveling! Exploring Global travel opportunities was one of the main things I aimed to do during my time at GBS. To me, it was just as important to gain a great global education as it was to gain a great classroom education. That was one thing that made GBS stand out to me in the application process. There are multitudes of global travel opportunities available to students who desire and seek them. Even if opportunities are not immediately apparent, if you are proactive, you can create your own opportunities. Special thanks to our MBA Director for International and Joint Degree Programs , Harriet Ruskin for all she has done to aid in my pursuit of a truly Global MBA education!
In other news, I am currently in week 8 of my internship with a major Consulting firm and to put it quite simply, the summer has been amazing! I got staffed on a client travel project and for one, I feel very fortunate for the great team I am staffed with. I truly love my team and the people I work with, as cliché as it might sound. I am also really enjoying the Midwestern city I am staffed in : ). The weather has been great, people are nice, there is an abundance of things to do (if I actually leave work before the sun goes down, lol) and best of all, a few friends of mine also have internships in the same city!
Throughout the duration of my internship, I have found myself pulling together things I learned during my first year at Goizueta. Not like I ever doubted it would be, but it’s definitely great to have it reinforced that close to everything in the core is actually useful in the grand scheme of things. Thank you GBS! I can’t wait to debrief with Professor Noonan (Decision Modeling professor – my 2nd semester elective) and Professor Sacks (Leading Organizations and Strategy professor – my 1st semester core professor)… in terms of applying class work to real work, so far, I have used the things I have learned in those classes the most. I should also plan similar debrief sessions with some of my other core professors Professor Barton (my 1st semester Accounting core professor), Professor Hill (my 1st semester Economics core professor) and Professor Smith (my 1st and 2nd semester Professional Communications core professor).
Over these past weeks, I have learned so much and know that I will definitely come away from this summer a much more well rounded business person. Going in, my ultimate goals for this summer were fairly simple: learn as much as I can, make a significant measurable impact and contribution to my team’s initiatives, build great relationships through efficient networking, and have fun! I have achieved all those things thus far, and I know everything else will fall into place
.
The outcome of the summer will begin to pull everything together for me, hence why I have titled the blog embarking on the next phase .. of my career, my goals, my life! I must admit I am very excited about it all.
Thanks for reading. Until next time, continue to have a wonderful summer. Auf wiedersehen! : )
