The first week at Tuck is call orientation week and in honor of that the last two weeks at Tuck are called Disorientation. During Disorientation there are many interesting and pleasant activities which range from sailing in Newport, to trekking Moosilauke mountain and include a camp day in the lake area and, the “Last Chance Dance”, where you literally have the last chance to dance with whoever you’ve wanted to dance during the last couple of years and never had the chance (or courage) to ask out.
Disorientation includes many family friendly events and is optional. This year’s Disorientation was as fun as any other year, and was full with meaning and emotions to us second years as we all knew that our Tuck experience was coming to an end and all of us are going our separate ways. Some of us are leaving the country most likely to never come back (well, of course that we’ll be coming back but most likely with a completely different Visa status: tourists).
Disorientation helps us to “disorient” from the Tuck life and adjust to the “real” world. I can’t deny that I’m thrilled to go back home for good, but there is a part of me that would always miss Hanover and Tuck, no matter how “disorientated” I get in life.
