The New York Times education blog “The Choice” just posted an article about the increasingly high rate of transfer students. Below you’ll find the key points:
- One in three college students transfer at some point during their college career.
- Most transfers occur from two-year community colleges to more traditional four-year institutions.
- College adcoms say that the post-secondary GPA is the most important criteria for admitting transfer students.
- Transferring isn’t always an easy process, but according to Andrew Flagel, dean of admission at George Mason University, “Colleges…are realizing that transfer students are a tremendous source of quality students and diverse students, and as a result many colleges are…finally beginning to adjust to more rational transfer policies.”
