The Choice Blog from The New York Times is charting early admissions applications and acceptances to various colleges for the fall semester. So far, they have found a large rise in early applications at Northwestern, University of Chicago, and Duke, and a decrease at Williams and Yale. It is possible that the upsurge in applications to Duke is related to their recent program in which those students whose parents earn less than $60,000 a year need no parental contribution, and for those earning less than $40,000 a year, the students can graduate free of any debt.
