- Teresa A. Sullivan was inaugurated as the University of Virginia’s eighth president last Friday. - A Chronicle article, “Stalking the True College Acceptance Rate,” discusses the difference between how institutions compute acceptance rates and then how those acceptance rates are translated over to the applying public. In short, institutions don’t account for multiple applications or unqualified applicants, making their acceptance rate higher than the rate that the applicants read about online. The ratio of the actual number of qualified applicants compared to the actual number of available slots in reality a lot higher than the published single-digit acceptance rates, and it’s this ratio, argues the article, that applicants should have access to.
- Princeton Review released its Top 10 Dream School list based on its 2011 “College Hopes & Worries Survey.”
