Class of 2011 Consulting (and Banking) success stories

I am extremely proud of how well my classmates have done with receiving Consulting offers. The FT MBA Class of 2011 will be represented at such firms as Accenture, Bain & Company, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, McKinsey and others upon graduation!!!!! (yes, that deserves 5 exclamation points). At this time last year, we were just wrapping up our case interview preparations, and it’s exciting to see things come to fruition the way they have. We all worked so hard! Countless hours spent in the commons, reading rooms, study rooms, with 2nd years/alumni, even on Skype/phone calls over the winter break working tirelessly on our case preparations. It’s a great feeling to know that many of my classmates’ hard-work paid off, and they found success with Consulting full-time offers. Just goes to show the old adage, if you want something strongly enough, you will get it.

You have probably heard that Consulting case interviews are tough, and that they are. But I believe more than anything, after you have adequately prepared of course, it is a test of confidence in your own ability to excel in them. I believe Goizueta’s curriculum is a strong catalyst for this confidence. The curriculum well positions students for success in Consulting cases because we have our core courses quite early on in the school year. So even before the Diversity Conferences, which occur over the September to October time frames, Goizueta first-years have already had a strong serving of Strategy, Economics, Structured Problem Solving and Marketing – all courses that, I believe, are essential contributors to Consulting case interview success. I know the 1st term can seem to be so heavily loaded with work, but, especially for aspiring future Consultants, this does pay off. Vault.com recently named Emory Goizueta as the Top Business School for Consulting in Atlanta ahead of Harvard Business School (which came in at #2) [Source: http://poetsandquants.com/2010/08/23/in-consulting-whos-no-1/]. Of course, the Consulting offers extended to Emory students are not just for Atlanta alone, however. We also have Consultants joining offices in big cities such as Washington D.C., Chicago and New York.

I am proud to be a member of the Accenture Class of 2011 recruits! I have officially accepted my offer and will be joining Accenture’s Finance and Performance Management service-line upon graduation. I am really quite excited because this was my top goal; exactly what I wrote in my admission essays that I wanted to do when I was applying for business school! In all, 11 Goizueta MBAs received Full Time offers from ACN this year!! Congratulations to all, it certainly is no small accomplishment for Goizueta! We all recently came off a celebration weekend in Miami, fully sponsored by the firm. It felt great to be surrounded by such great, friendly and hard working people. It makes me look forward to my career as an ACN Consultant even more to know that my current network will continue post graduation.

Here are just a few of the future Accenture Consultants from the FT MBA Class.

I am looking forward to the current 1st year class sharing similar good news both with ACN and other Consulting firms in the coming months.

Lastly, I wouldn’t be justified if I didn’t also mention how proud I am for the success of the future bankers in my class as well. Goizueta Business School was recently ranked #10 in the Nation for Employability in Banking by Poets and Quants [Source: http://poetsandquants.com/2010/11/02/columbia-nyu-chicago-rank-as-top-b-schools-in-banking/]. That’s #10 for all business schools in the country. Not bad for a school which has been unfairly dubbed as just a regional southwestern school by some (as we all know, Banking careers are mostly in New York). My classmates worked extremely hard and as thus, had success with internships at Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Barclay’s Capital, Wells Fargo, etc. Basically, almost every major investment bank had representation from a Goizueta student last summer. That’s no small feat and I applaud my classmates for the countless hours of work they put in, both to snag those offers in the first place, and of course, to obtain the Full Time offers they did after the summer ended!

Good luck to all finishing up applications or waiting on accept decisions at this time! Please feel free to reach out to me for more specific insight on Consulting at Goizueta.

All the best! =)
