After leaving Tuck circle at 3:00 am on Wednesday morning and surviving nearly half a day in Chicago’s O’Hare airport, Admissions officer Amy Mitson arrived safely in the first city on the Learning Expedition to China. Amy is traveling with a wonderful group of Tuckies from the first and second year classes, Professor Peter Golder and Sal Cania from the Center for International Business. They were greeted by a wonderfully clear day with mild temperatures in Beijing. They ventured by subway to tour through the Temple Of Heaven. In addition to the beautiful grounds, music and dancing, and amazing temples built of only wood (without a single nail used in construction!), they ventured through Echo Hall, saw a 580 year old tree called the Nine Dragon Juniper, and two members of the group even purchased Rolexes along the way(or something close to a Rolex perhaps…).
After the Temple of Heaven they left their sneakers and jeans behind for business formal dress and a visit to China International Capital Corporation and a presentation from a managing director in the investment banking division. CICC was incredibly generous with their time and allowed for a very interactive presentation. The group finished their CICC visit and headed back to the hotel for a quick change. The next stop will be a group dinner. Guest of honor: Beijing duck! Stay tuned for more details…and hopefully some pictures! Oh, and be sure to check the CIB blog for updates from students on their global spring break adventures.
