It looks like anyone hoping for an announcement about who will replace Ted Snyder as dean of University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business (Chicago Full-Time MBA Profile) will have to wait a little longer. Chicago President Robert J. Zimmer and Provost Thomas F. Rosenbaum today sent an email to Booth faculty saying the search committee has not settled on a new dean yet. They wrote:
Following the recommendations of the Dean’s Search Committee, we are approaching the late stages of the process to name a new Dean for Chicago Booth. However, we will not be in a position to make an announcement by June 30. The three Deputy Deans, Stacey Kole, Richard Leftwich, and Mark Zmijewski, have graciously agreed to assume responsibility for the School and insure that we do not lose momentum. We will provide further information by the end of July.
The search committee has been looking for a new dean since Snyder announced his resignation in December. His last day is tomorrow, after which he takes a year off before assuming the dean’s position at Yale School of Management which means one of the top b-schools in the land will be without a dean for nearly a month.
We’ve heard no speculation at all on this dean search, which is odd since there’s been plenty at Harvard, Northwestern, and other schools that have undergone leadership transitions recently. Any thoughts on what Chicago should be looking for in a leader?
