Campus Chronicles: The Harbus

This edition of Campus Chronicles heads to Cambridge, to HBS, and more specifically to The Harbus, the news publication of MBA students at Harvard Business School.

On this coming Monday, the HBS Charity Fashion show will return to benefit The Harris CenterFunds raised through this event will go to spreading awareness about eating disorders, including prevention and treatment.  The event will also supplement the Harris Center’s work with The Council of Fashion Designers of America.  The Fashion Show team of 14 has also gained partnerships with organizations such as Sephora, Rent the Runway, Bull & Buck, Bonobos, and startup site havetohave.com.

Student-founded startup CloudFlare was recently named “Most Innovative Network & Technology Company of 2011” by The Wall Street Journal.  This high-tech company was founded by two HBS Class of 2009 graduates and is based in San Francisco.  CloudFlare uses “[content delivery network]-like technology,” in the words of one founder, who said also that the company mainly “builds networks from the ground up.”  In the time since it was founded at HBS in 2009, the company’s network has received about 15 billion page views and 350 million visitors per month.

In the Venture Corner is the investment firm Copley Equity Partners.  The co-founders are two current students of the Class of 2012 who run the firm in their spare time.  Copley uses a search fund model of investing and focuses on small and middle market companies.  Both students plan to continue with Copley upon graduation and are taking steps to buy a company without significant demands in leadership positions at this time.
