Welcome back to Campus Chronicles, Clear Admit’s weekly wander through MBA student newspapers! Today we’re flipping through The Cold Call Chronicle to read about the latest news from UVA Darden:
Late last month, nearly 400 people gathered in the Abbott Dining Room for Darden’s first Student Chef Day. In response to students’ requests for a more diverse menu in the dining hall, the Darden Hospitality Student Advisory Committee has instigated a monthly Student Chef Day in which a Darden student designs a multiple-dish lunch menu that is then served at Abbott. The program launched on April 20th, featuring a meal of traditional Indian cuisine from first-year student Sonia Punwani. The next Student Chef Day, which will highlight Chinese food, is scheduled for the fall 2011 semester.
Also in April, Darden’s Sustainability Program and the Net Impact Club held a series of events in celebration of the school’s Earth Week. On-campus activities included a “What Can You Do Beyond Earth Day?” information table, which taught students about how to be more environmentally friendly in their daily lives, and a screening of a documentary about plastic waste, titled “Bag It: Is Your Life Too Plastic?” Earth Week also took students off campus to enjoy activities such as a nature hike and a field trip to see renewable energy put to use in nearby Charlottesville.
With the semester coming to a close, the Cold Call Chronicle is welcoming its new staff for the 2011-2012 academic year. The students on next year’s staff hail from across the United States, in addition to Taiwan, India, China, and the United Arab Emirates.
