GetSchooled.com is hosting the Get MotivatED Challenge, a five-week competition across 25 high schools in the U.S. The goals are to improve daily attendance rates and reduce the increasingly high dropout rate among high schoolers.
There are a number of scholarships that will be awarded to outstanding students in the competition including three $10,000 college scholarships, a one-year subscription to the Official SAT Online Course, and an opportunity to be principal for the day, among many others.
GetSchooled.com is also hosting the Def Jam Rapstar Video Contest—students create original raps or poems that extol the importance of staying in school. The winner will be flown to New York City, will meet producers Russell Simmons and Kevin Liles, and will perform his/her winning piece on “106 & Park,” BET’s hit show. The first 500 students to submit videos will receive free movie passes.
Another award available is the Inspirational Teacher Recognition award. Students will nominate teachers who have impacted their lives and who have inspired them to stay in school. Winning teachers will receive various gifts and awards.
