Back after quite a break…

It’s been a while since I blogged, close to almost a month-and-a-half. I must say, the intervening time has been a heck of a ride – First Year Project frenzy, finals, course projects, club activities, etc. – they all seem so long ago. When they say “Time flies when you are doing your MBA,” they are not kidding. I was chatting with a few graduating students from the Class of 2009 (the Tuck Investiture Ceremony was on June 13th) and they could hardly believe that they are now done – everyone pretty much said that the past two years went by in a jiffy. In fact, we cannot believe that we are now taking up the mantle of second year students – hard to imagine that barely 10 months back, we were all planning our relocation to Hanover and eagerly looking forward to what was in store for us. Here we are, 10 months later, dispersed all over the world and doing our internships in a wide variety of industries. It did not matter that the economy was and still is in a bad shape – every single member of the Class of 2010 got an internship and each of us is looking forward to enjoying a productive, yet relaxing summer.

Members of the class of 2011 must already be planning their move to Upper New England – quitting the job, finalizing accommodation and moving details – the whole nine yards. Believe me, you are coming to what is one of the top business schools in the world and you are in for a treat of your lifetime. It’s not simply academics, it’s not simply social life, it’s not simply the outdoors, it’s not simply the people. It’s a world-class combination of all of the above that sets Tuck apart from its peer schools. We had a two-day session on financial modeling in early May where the person running show (who has no Tuck affiliation) made a comment when he was wrapping up (and I am paraphrasing him): “I’ve conducted these sessions at so many top business schools, but this is what stands out about Tuck: you guys are different. It takes very little effort to be nice to people, and I can tell you after all these years of working on Wall Street, that in the end, that’s what takes you forward. It’s surprising how many people miss that fact – but I can tell you, you guys have it.”

On that note, here’s wishing the very best and Heartiest Congratulations to the Class of 2009 on your graduation, to the class of 2010 on the successful completion of your first year, and to the incoming first years – Class of 2011. Looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!
