Another women post for my all-male audience

Clear Admit referenced this study a bit ago. It’s always reassuring to read another article about how it’s tougher to be a woman in business. I never get angry at work or really ever because it’s not my personality, so I guess I’m safe being a woman for now but it’s frustrating that men get credit for it. I work in a place where people are nice and generally very respectful, but on the few occasions people get upset, I’ve definitely seen others rationalize anger if it’s a man: oh, he was out of line but he’s just extremely invested in this project but with a woman it’s: she’s psycho or going through menopause or something stupid like that (I won’t say the B-word because remember Tina Fey made it positive?).

One thing that bothers me the most (and why I like this article) is that when we discuss women in the workplace it’s always talking about having kids or work-life balance (I hate that expression). I won’t have kids for 10 years, I don’t care! My company is kid-friendly and I love it that fathers are taking paternity leave now too but I don’t see women at the level below the CEO (oh right, except for HR or maybe an occasional general counsel). It’s something else, people.

Why is it always women who have to change to fit into the male paradigm? Men never have to read these articles and worry if their behavior is perfect so they can succeed.
