I guess I should explain how I was able to meet my own personal deadline for submission. On Friday, I was finally able to get my second recommender/previous supervisor to come out again with me to lunch. We ate the same exact thing as last time (hala food/chicken and rice with the mysterious white sauce) at the same exact lunch courtyard. I think the place is called the Sony courtyard. Of course, it was my treat. On a side note, although street meat is cheap and tasty, that stuff explodes in your stomached like a grenade after an hour. You can’t eat chicken and rice off a street cart everyday. But I digress….
Anyway, right of the bat, my recommender knew exactly the reason why I called him out to lunch. But he took it in stride and teased me about it. After I sheepishly admitted my ulterior motive, he apologized for taking so long on the recommendation. He’s been really busy with work but at the same time wants to do a good job on the recommendation as well. What can I say but “thanks”? After he promised to get it done over the weekend, we turned to other lighter stuff – you know the usual: work, girls, life. As promised, I come in Monday morning only to get an email saying he has completed and has submitted. Joy! My recommender also called me a few minutes later and wished me the best of luck. After that, I gave my application another once over before I hit the submit button. And bam!, I was done.
Now that I think about it, I was being kind of silly. Fretting about something that is out of your hands is a waste of energy. In the end, things always sort of work out. But it sure does feel good knowing that I’m done : )
