5 Study Tips That Have Nothing to do with Studying

It’s the last day of summer (at least in the Northern Hemisphere) so the majority of us are starting to settle into our fall routine – especially if you’re gearing up to [test:'sat-maths' conquer the SAT]! It’s hard not to feel a bit overwhelmed when returning to school after a textbook – free summer, so to help ease the transition, here are 5 tips to help improve your fall study routine that don’t require you to touch one text book.

  1. Create a schedule. Not just for your study time, but you life. Include exercise, time with friends, relaxation, chores, studying and sleep. To keep your brain firing on all cylinders, you’re going to want to make time for at least 7 hours a night.
  2. Silence your self-judgement. Your inner critic needs to be replaced with an inner cheerleader. Acing the SAT is not an impossible task for you. After all, it’s testing what you’ve just spent the last 4 years learning, not quantum physics.
  3. Visualize Success. While you’re creating your life schedule, set aside 5 minutes in a quiet place to imagine your ideal SAT day. See yourself as confident, prepared and comfortable, answering each question with clarity and assurance. Imagine the rush you feel while you find out you got exactly the marks you were training for.
  4. Take care of you. Eating a well rounded diet, exercising and sleeping not only make your body happy but they also help maintain an overall sense of mental happiness, which is key for top performance on test day.
  5. Stretch your mind. Have you ever noticed how good you feel after spending time stretching your body? You mind works the same way and by stretching your thought process you’ll make your mind more flexible and nimble.
