The Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University earlier this month announced the creation of a new endowed management professorship thanks to a $4 million alumni gift.
The gift, from the estate of Barbara Collyer and Frank Collyer ’48, will establish the Lewis H. Durland Professorship of Management, which will support the research and teaching agenda of a recipient professor in finance, accounting or economics. Murillo Campello, professor of finance, has been named its first recipient and will join the Johnson faculty July 1st.
Three million dollars of the gift will support the professorship, and an additional $1 million will support the dean’s discretionary fund. “The gift will further Johnson’s ability to advance its global strategy and breadth of research and will ensure the school can continue to attract such talents as Campello, whose superior teaching abilities will greatly impact student’s thinking, values, and understanding of business,” Joe Thomas, Johnson dean, said in a statement.
Campello, who holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, comes to Johnson from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
