In the upcoming academic year, the addition of Columbia University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Michigan, and 22 others will bring the total number of Common Application participating institutions to 414, reports a New York Times article.
The Common Application saves applicants from writing multiple original essays for each school they apply to. The new Common Application will be released on August 1, 2010.
On Columbia University’s decision to add the Common Application, Columbia Dean of Undergraduate Admissions, Jessica Marinaccio, explains that it will “make applying to Columbia more accessible to students from every background….We…hope that the standardized nature of the Common Application will make applying easier, more convenient and less stressful for students and the counselors and teachers who support them.”
Columbia is the last of the Ivy League institutions to being accepting the Common Application.
