“Let your clarity define you in the end…”

I’ll recap what happened last night at the GMATClub.com NYC Happy Hour. We met at this place called Dove, a basement bar in the Village near NYU. It wasn’t a big gathering, just four people including me. One was a NYU ‘09 alumni, who currently works in financial consulting. If you’re reading this Undy – luv your accent old chap..cheerioo…haha..I kid I kid. Anyway, there was another Sterny, but current 1st year, who I thought tried to be extremely helpful in answering my questions. Another was a Cornell 1st year, who came a bit later – I may reach out to him more later on. The place itself was nice and cozy. I like the fact that the bartenders didn’t hassle us for drinks, which was good because I wanted to stick to just one glass of wine. Technically, I shouldn’t be drinking as I am in pre-op for surgery that may or may not happen next week depending on if there’s a slot available. I’ll go into that more once it’s confirmed. Anyway, back on topic – since I was the only BSchool applicant there, I really got a chance to listen to their take and experiences. The guys assured me that it’s still early in the process and that I should just work on my next application while waiting. Speaking of, I originally planned on visiting Cornell and doing my interview on campus if invited for one. But the guys suggested I visit beforehand. They said that Cornell has a direct bus that takes prospective students to Ithaca. I’ll definitely look into that. Another tip that may be helpful to all those out there still waiting to hear back is that admissions offices are pretty much closed for the holidays and will return after New Year. That’s good to know because now I won’t be checking my email every 10 minutes until then – a little relief for my sanity. Overall, we covered a range of topics- from applying to BSchool, to MBA student life, to just balancing it all. It was definitely reassuring meeting those guys. Will have to do it again sometime fellas.

Here’s a song that I think is most appropriate given the situation and season – “Little Wonders” by the amazing Rob Thomas – one of my favorites. The song was also featured in “Meet the Robinsons”. The message in both the song and the movie is very inspiring. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!!
